From earliest time archangel Michael was considered
to be a patron of Kiev.
The Emblem of Kiev is a heraldic shield featured a blue field with archangel
Michael depicted in its central part holding a fiery sword in his
right hang and a shield in his left.

This emblem is known to have been first used as the emblem of Kiev in 1782.
